HEALTHY TORRIJAS WITHOUT SUGAR

HEALTHY TORRIJAS WITHOUT SUGAR

Even though Holy Week has already begun and the torrijas are a dessert for Lent, we are still in time to eat this typical sweet. In some parts of Spain, this week is one of the most important of the year; so much for the familiar meetings, as for the Christian devotion and the typical feeding. The Torrijos and the pestinos are quite caloric recipes, which are usually loaded with added sugars. That is why most people who take care of themselves, avoid these desserts at all costs.

Torrijas yes, but healthyHEALTHY TORRIJAS WITHOUT SUGAR

You do not have to stop tasting a typical sweet of a specific date, you just have to make a healthy recipe. On this occasion, no added sugars, no honey baths. You will notice that the taste is very similar to the traditional ones and you will feel less guilty when you “sin” in the diet. Logically, it is a caloric dessert, which fattens the same as the recipe that our grandmothers make. What we are looking for is foods with fewer calories, saturated fats, and extra sugars.

There are those who know this sweet because it is similar to French toast. In this case, we use extra virgin olive oil to seal the mixture of milk and egg.

INGREDIENTS

-6 slices of bread mold

-Milk (choose to taste)

-1 egg

-Cinnamon to taste

-Vanilla

-Liquid sweetener

PREPARATION

WE HEAT THE MILK

In a small pot, heat the milk with the sweetener, cinnamon, and vanilla essence. Once everything is well mixed, let it rest in a deep dish.

IN A DISH…

We beat the egg.

WE SOAK BREAD SLICES

One by one, we wet the slices of bread in the milk mixture and then in the egg.

TO THE PAN!

Once well soaked, we give them a “back and forth” in the pan so that they are golden brown.

Sprinkle cinnamon to taste, and enjoy!
