Dan Bongino was born on March 14, 1964 in Queens, New York. He received a degree in political science from Fordham University in 1986 and later attended law school at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Bongino began his career as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York in 1990. He was promoted to deputy U.S. attorney in 1995 and became the lead prosecutor for the office in 1998. In 2003, he was named as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, a post he held until 2007 when he was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as Assistant Attorney General for National Security under Attorney General Michael Mukasey.
In 2009, Bongino founded The Federalist Society, a conservative legal think tank. He also served as president of the National Rifle Association from 2010 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2016. Dan Bongino was born on October 5, 1964, in New York City. He is the son of an Italian American father and a Greek American mother.
Bongino attended Fordham University where he earned a degree in political science. After graduation, he worked as a congressional staffer for three years.
Bongino then became a law enforcement officer for the NYPD for nine years, where he attained the rank of captain. In 2001, Bongino ran for Congress in New York’s 18th district and won with 53 percent of the vote.
In 2009, Bongino was appointed Assistant Deputy Director of the FBI by former FBI director Robert Mueller. He held this position until his appointment to U.S Attorney for the Southern District of New York by President Trump in 2017.
