Measure to the Ceiling, Not Head Height
Measuring your room from floor to ceiling as opposed to your head height will reveal a substantial amount of storage space above the normal height of a wardrobe. This area can be used for an extra shelf or two, perfect for storing items such as luggage, boxes and bedding that is used on a seasonal basis.
Fill the Awkward Spots
Spaces like the area to the side of a chimney breast, sloping ceilings and corners can all be difficult to fill with standard wardrobes. However, a fitted wardrobe is designed to fit around any irregular shape and can make the most of spaces that would otherwise be unused.
Plan the Inside Before the Outside
Decide on your wardrobe layout prior to considering the outside of the wardrobe. The hanging space will need to be of a suitable height to accommodate the garments that are to be hung in the wardrobe. Choose Doors to Suit the Floor Space
Hinged doors require space in front of the door, roughly the width of the door. Sliding doors on the other hand do not require any space in front of the door, making them ideal for very small bedrooms.
Check for Obstructions Before Fixing Depth
When choosing a wardrobe it is also worth remembering that the average British home is much smaller than in other countries. Most rooms are smaller than average and therefore clearance around the edges of the room are vital. Check that the carcass depth of the wardrobe you choose will clear the skirting board and any other obstructions such as light switches and radiators.
This means that the finished wardrobe will function and look great.
