Personalising your balcony space

Your balcony is an extension of your home and is a space where the indoors and the outdoors can combine to create a beautiful area that you will want to relax in on a nice warm summer’s evening and perhaps curl up on your seating with a nice hot chocolate and a blanket in the autumn.

There are many ways that you can bring some of your personality on your balcony by decorating it in a number of different ways. If you are thinking of personalising your balcony space here are some of the things that you will want to think about.

Vertical space – it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking of your balcony as a flat floor space when you actually have a lot of vertical space that you can also use such as the walls of your home with balustrades to provide you with security, safety and some privacy.

Furniture – make sure that the furniture that you place on your balcony doesn’t restrict your access. It is often a good idea to place this against one of the external walls. You can then cover this furniture with throws and pillows to make it as comfortable as possible and to reflect some of your own styling.

Privacy – if you want to make your balcony space more private you could look at screens that you can use for dividing rooms as well as plants such as bamboo that will grow in pots and then create a natural screening for you.
